Syllabus overview for GPAT/NIPER.

Pharmaceutics:

Ø          Lachman – chapter 1 to 7 are important. Chapter 8, 11 – 22 are to be done from this book. Tables  on  page  number  are  important  –  27,  37,44,98, 151,165,174,321,357

                 551570   (names   only),   621,631,   634, 642, 646  (tricky question like most permeable can be asked), 648.

Ø          Martin  –  if  you  read  Subramanyam  whole,  then  do chapter  1, and  last  2  chapters (biomaterials and delivery systems from it.)

Ø          Brahmankar – whole book, read units of various parameters. CDDS. Remember various  release models.

Ø           Cosmetics  - remember only general things from B. M. Mitthal.

Ø           R. M mehta – Posology, calculations are important.

Ø          Cooper-gun – read method for sterilization of various injections given at the end of

book.Containers, surgical instruments and sterilization at least see if u get time.

Ø          Extra – stability testing, ICH guidelines, drug approval process like NDA, ANDA, ORANGE BOOK.

Ø           Intellectual property rights (NIPER only).

Ø           What is being studied in niper is also asked.(that leave to us)

Ø           Gmp guidelines.

Ø          Rang and dale remains the standard book for GPAT/NIPER. (do all important tables from it.)

Ø           K.D TRIPATHI – see heamatology, cancer, antibiotics, disinfectants and vaccines from it.

Ø           See adverse drug reactions from ROGER-WALKER book.

Which class drug belongs (chemical class, not pharmacological. Pharmacological class from K.D TRIPATHI only)

Steroid chapter is very important.

Iupac you can see of above drugs from Harkishan Singh book.just see the structure u will notice how iupac is given..for some of above drugs IUPAC mIght be complex and lengthy or not found just leave it.

ü           If there are less adulterants or less info about adulterants in Kokate see Trease and Evans for further.

Ø           Earlier chapters general introduction are important from Kokate.

Ø           Trease-Kvans  -see flavonoids and quality control chapter from it.

Ø           Who guidelines – Kokate is good but with limited information. See other book.

Ø           Caretenoids – Agrawal is good book. Remember only no of double bonds, structure, use.

Ø           Biochemical pathways – remember starting points.

Ø          Amino acids from which alkaloids are derived are to be remembered E:g tropane alkaloids from ornithine.

Ø           Microscopy of following drugs:

Ø           Read Khandelwall book other then above microscopies full.

Organic chemistry :

Ø           Read   only   name   reactions:  Hoffman   rearrangement  etc  (Mehta   and   Mehta   or Morrison/Boyd)

Ø           Stereochemistry from (M/M or M/M).

Ø           Various catalyst from M/M E:g lindlar catalyst,wilkinson catalyst

Ø           General concepts from – M/M

Ø           Glossary of M/M

Inorganic chemistry:

Ø           Bahl and Tuli only –thermodynamic and nuclear pharmacy chapters are very important. Other chapters are  also important.

Ø           Chatwal – remember only common names of compounds and their use and  water for injection limits.

Microbiology :

Ø           Only Kokare (whole book) is enough. For microbiological tests see INAMDAR.

Ø           Vaccines read from it and also ip.

Ø           Something from Tortora (For Niper – we will say later).

Ø           Diagnostic tests.

Biochemistry :

Ø           Satyanarayan is enough:

Do chapters 1 to 7 and metabolism chapters. Do all important tables.

Ø          Biochemical teats (from R.K. GOYAL - available in GUJARAT only others students should see SATYANARAYAN AND KALE BOOK)
